Creating an Outdoor Living Space for All Four Seasons

Did you know that 90% of our time is spent indoors?

And did you know that simply 'spending time outdoors' is, one of America's favorite things to do?

We all love the clean fresh air, the open space, and the feeling of the wind on our skin, and the smell of the flowers blooming.

But! It is freezing in the Winter, and sweltering in the Summer! And we end up just staying inside where it's comfortable, and hope for a better day where we can go out and play.

Well, it does not have to be this way.

Whether you live in California or New Jersey, you want to enjoy the outdoors all year round.

And you can!

Your outdoor set up needs to take into account: cold weather and hot weather.

You'll need elements in your backyard to cool you down in the heat of the Summer, and elements to warm you up in the early Spring, late Fall, and Winter.

Something to Cool You Down

Summers in New Jersey can be just as hot as ones in Florida, albeit, of shorter duration. Even so, to survive the oppressive heat you'll need two elements: a water feature, where you can jump in and cool off, and a shade structure, where you can sit and relax outside without the sun baking you.

Water Feature

Inground fiberglass pools have exploded in popularity recently, and are a brilliant solution for those who want a pool fast, and relatively affordable. They come in dozens if not hundreds of different sizes/shapes. And can be installed in as little as 4 weeks if all goes according to schedule.

Shade Structures

Gazebos, pergolas, pavilions, and pagodas! Whatever you choose, you'll be glad you went the extra mile to get one of these installed in your backyard oasis. Throw some Edison lights over top of it, and some Adirondack chairs underneath, and you've got yourself a proper outdoor living room.

Something to keep you warm

Early Spring nights, Fall nights, and Winter require you to have some sort of a fire feature, a source of warmth.

Firepit

The firepit is the most versatile of your options. Again, even if you live in Florida or California, where it is warm all year round; when temperatures dip to a mild 50 degrees you'll be glad to have a fire pit. You can use them to warm your feet, or with the right attachments you can even BBQ over them!

Outdoor Fireplace

These impressive structures take your property to a whole other level. They are more expensive than a firepit but serve the exact same function, it is purely a matter of taste.

Something to Protect You From the Elements

A pergola with a rain guard roof, or a pavilion is the perfect solution to this. If there is a light rain, or a light snow, instead of running inside, you can have one of these structures provide you with some protection. It goes without saying if there are gusts of wind and heavy rain, the wind will most likely blast the rain through the open sides of your pergola, in which case the rain guard roof will do you little good and the only thing that could protect you is a fully covered wall.

Conclusion

To enjoy your backyard paradise ALL year, you need only three things:

  1. something to keep you warm,
  2. something to keep you cool,
  3. something to protect you from the elements.
